Tho coal miners' dispute was ' called oil, and tho Court doeided that furtbor attempts should, be mado to effect a ? 'settlement. If the parties held a conference and failed to n.rrivo at a definito decision ' tho Court might hold a special sitting to deal with tho.oase in November, or December. It was mentioned. that tho employers wore proparod, in the event of an increase being granted, that it-should take effect from August 1. Mr. Forbes, representing the Coal Miners' "Union, said if this sitting wero missed-, thero would, bo serious trouble. 0 His Honour -sa.id before tho Court hoard a 0 dispute it must" bo satisfied cver\"rcasonablo effort'had' been macle to settlo and had ■ failed. At present tho Court would not dc- " cido whotlier the case would bo heard at '■ the present sitting or not. A numbor of iirms were fined small sums r for minor breaches of awards.
