Wairarapa, and also on tlia .North Jtanawatu side, while tho.' intersection from , tho Greytown _ sido would bo equally useful to South Wairarapa and the s - Lower Valley. There was an immenso area of land in the South Wairarapa, which would bo well served by tho closer communication between tho districts as was being advocated. ■ Mr. Loasby said that' the distance from v Greytown to Otaki was about 30 miles, but only eleven miles of tho distanco had already been completed. Ho understood that tho Government Roads Department had already spoken favourably of the Grey-to wn-Otaki road proposal, which, so far, merely _ provided for the construction of,.an ordinary track at a cost of "about £200. It understood, however, that the amount required for. : tho purpose will bo from £300 to £500.
