Deep snow is reported to bo lying on tho country at the; back of Mount Sonicrs, and the severity of the frosts may bo gauged from tho fact that l.*st week a mob or 1000 sheep was driven across t-lio ico on Maori Lake, some twenty miles inland from Mount Somers. The recent fall of snow is likely to bo more serious than was ,at first anticipated. In tho Mackenzie country, runbolders are. employing men at great to save as -many sheep as possible, but it is' stated, that where hundreds wcro lost after tho great snowstorm, somo few years back, tho loss this time will run into thousands. , Dunedin, July 20.
