The late Mr. Frank Parker, whose death i was announced in yesterday's Dominion, was a Now Zealarider born and bred, who served, through several stages of the Maori v,'.ir in the lato sixties.' He acted as mounted orderly'to Colonel Whitmore 1 at the battle of, Omaranui in Hawke's Bay, and later he was in action against .the Ureweras at Whakatane. 'He carried dispatches from Mohaka the night beforo the dreadful massacre was perpetrated, and he' also; took part in fighting at Pa'puna Gorge, where Captains Canning and Ca'rr wore killed. After that event, .Mr.'iPat-' ker was at Waikaremoana' under, Colonel Kerrick, and at Taupo, where he obtained his discharge, and settled down in.Maste'rton! i .. The annual report of the'Ma sterton Bowling Club states that during the! past year there '.has been v an increase of twenty' in the riiembership. It was felt that , the system inaugurated 'by the match committee of. encouraging young players was largely responsible for this' good result. Improvement's [carried out for the past, year, were of an important nature, the liew,green'.having been relaid at a'cost of £60, while there had been other generail extensive repairs. 1 ) The financial: position as disclosed in the balance-sheet necessitated the Club taking into very serious consideration the question of finance. It;'was evidont the Club could 'not get' along without more revenue, and; it was recommended by tho committeo.that tho.subscription be raised to:£2 2s. per annum, also that in viewj of increased deficit of the past year, a lovy, of 21s. per member be made. • The balan'co- ■ sheet showed receipts amounting to £176 125., and an expenditure of £335 lis. 10(1., leaving a debit balance of £158 19s. lOd.
