The Rev. C. E. Beecroft, President of the Now Zealand Methodist Conference, will arrive in Wellington by tho Manawatu express this ovening. To-morrow ho will coiiduct the opening services of tho new Wesley Church at Island Bay. i Tho Mayor of Dnncdin (Mr. J. M'Donald)' 'will leave that city for Wellington about August 1 to attend the Municipal Conference. Ho will afterwards' proceed to Auckland for tho American licet celebrations, accompanied by Mr. J. Jacobs (Deputy Town Clerk). Mrs. Annie Besant, tho famous lecturer and writer on theosophical subjects, and the President of the Thcosophical Society, will arrive in Wellington on Friday, July 31. She will address a' mooting' in tho Town Hall tlio following evening, and in tho Opera Houso\ on Sunday, August 2. At a' ; special meeting of the Presbytery of Wellington it was decided to arrange for tlio ordination of . tho Rev. J. Chalmers Mill (of Auckland) to tho Pahiatua Church on Wednesday, July 29. The llev. A.. P. Thompson, of Masterton,' was appointed, to prosido. Tho Chief' Justice (Sir Robert Stout) informed a Dominion representative yesterday that ho had iiot made up his mind as to whether ho would apply for holiday leave next year. It was, he said; customary., for Judges of tlio Supreme Court to obtain leave after tlioy had occupied tho position for over seven years.' By next year ho would have beon ten years in office. Tho Rev. J. A. Aslier, 8.A., of Napier, will occupy the pulpit of St. John's on tho last two Sundays of July. Mr. Ashor is a New Zealand graduate. He went Home for his theological curriculum, and on .hi? return recoeived a call to Gore, whoro ho did good work for a number of years. In Napier, his present charge, ho is regarded as a. thoughtful, cultured minister, nnd an; excellent preacher and public speaker.
