Auckland, July 17.: Sixteen men registered thoir names for em-' ployment at the Labour Bureau yesterday, bringing tlio total number registered during the week up to 118. Out of this number, the Department has already found employment for over 60, 50 of whom have been dispatchod • to Hukorenui and Wayby to bo . placed on tho . railway construction works at theso places. In referring to the question at the meeting of tho" City Council last night, tho Mayor (Mr. M., Myors) stated that he had asked the City Engineer to consider favourably tho pro- -; ' posal to put a larger number of men on tho works, but was informed that it was not practicable to increase tho number of workmen employed at tho present time owing to several of tho works in hand requiring skilled men. Other works could not bo nrooeoded with on account of the unfavourable weather.
