The team selected/to represent Australia in the swimming ' events comprised Reginald ("Snowy'') Baker'(NiS.W.), Prank Beaurepaire l (Victoria), iP. W; Springfield (Queensland), and Theo Tartakoyer (N.S.W.), with E. J. L. Cooke (N.S.W.), as emergency.. A cablegram received on ,"Wednesday evening stated that paire won his heat in this race in min. 49seo.'j that Cooke was ;.hoaten :in his heat, and that Tartakover had a, bye.'. Beaurepaire, who Vis only 16 years old, won the Australian ./ .Championship, the Kie.ran Shield, for his ( State at '■ Perth in February last./' He ,was first in the 440 yards; 880 yards, and mile, and second in.the 100 yards and 220 yards, Soon aftcsr his arrival at Home, Beaurepaire, who ihad' not previously competed-in a race .of over a /mile,-took part in a nfteen-mile contest/in . . from Bichinond to BJackfriars; Bridge. He collapsed seven miles from the start,,owing to; ah attack of cramp. Up to that ,point ,the race had'provided an. exciting; struggle between'.J. A. Some, days' later the Viotorian competed in a" race from ; Kew'to' Butney, the course being 5 miles 66iyards, but again collapsed.
