KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
• The Karori'Borough Council met-la'st night. There'were present:— I The Mayor (Mr. C. I. Dasent), and Crs. Lissington._ Spiers; Hammond, Raine, Bradriock,' Harris, Smith, and Wedde,' ■ ' ' '' i R. C. Hamerton asked the Council to proceed With the survey of Chisenhall Street. He also intimated that'he was willing to con-; tribute '£150 of the £250. required to form Bell Street. . Consideration of the matter was'deferred. ; H. D. Bailey,' Standen' Road, asked that some' metal' be put down on'the road h6ar his residence.. It -was agreed-toTeply that the request could not be acceded to. •' ; W. Lowery, G. Noble, and H. Benson re: quested-that 1 an. approach be constructed in front of their residences.The' Works C6mtoitteeV recommendation' that the work.-be not'done was adopted. •' ' ' . ' : Edward Flindle' and CecilW."Palmer drew, .the. attentionof the" Council I 'to'the''fact that '.the- formation; of ; the Old 'Karori Road caused 'the storm-water: to .flow on to■.tUoir sections. If the ; Council supplied, the necessary pipes theyiwould;lay them to.the satisfaction of the Corporation- Engineer. The Work's .committee recommended 'that|the ,-En-,' gineor be* instructed -,to 'give, '.an- - estimateof tho'cost of tlio'pipes. 'Theirecommendation was adopted; .' V. ■ The Secretary ,of the. syndicate-which'.' recently .purchased a' ■ property' situated next to the Baririatyne" Estate, and owned by Mr. P. Monaghan, requested, the Council to form k road on tho res'erve' at tho eiid of .Tisdall Street.- <• If- - the -.-Council .could not • under-take-tho work, the -'syndicate might- be prepared to do it if it were granted the necessary permission'. The' Works Committeo reported that - the land was.: private • property. • It was decided' to send a" reply -to "that effect. •, • •• • . Tho City Corporation asked to befurnished with tho schedule of works proposed to bo carried out', in the Northland district undor the loan obtained for ■ boroughimprovements, also' tliat a list of the works Which had not yet-been"carried out be supplied. The information was required in connection with' tho maintenance works, to bo carried out during the year.- The' communication was referred to the Works Committee,for report,. . The City. Corporation wrote stating that it had been advised.,that the.,Karori Coun-cil-must collect the special rate ■ strubk by. it on' tlje:: portions -of the ; Karori borough lately amalgamated with the city. -With reference ■to the' same subject the following reply; was .received \to a question ; put: to counsel to " Municipal Association of New Zealand by the "Karon Council The ca.se does not: come-, within; the Local - Bodies .Loans Act- Amendment ■ Act,- .1906, section .7, subsection '1: All 'the previous "enactments in the .Bodies; Act are repealed. ' The, case .comes Withi- section .183 of. the. Municipal Corporations "Act, 1900, and! the .regulations thereunder gazetted 'September - 25, 1902,- and- an'-adjustment must.be made between: the local authorities .concerned ,' ac : cordingly .by. a .commission appointed by the Governor. if no "agreement has already; been made ..between the local authorities. - Tho matter was 'referred' to' the' Amalgamation Committee. ,j \ , . ' .The.. Engineer reported, that tho. following works had .been", completed:—(l) The"high level "roads, main road and' Lancaster Street, formed,-metalled,' and fenced-in accordance with, agreoment .with adjoining, owners; tho 10ft. track at the ond of Donald' Street (8 chains), fqrmed, metalled,- and -tho boundary' defined to'enable J. Mills to fence; tho road connecting- Beauchanip Streot with tho Golf Links. Street' and Campbell - Street, formed 20ft. wide and metalled; (4) Standen Street, Johnson Street, and Cross Street (Standen Estate) .had been picked up, re-crownod, stops'removed, sumps built in-and grated, and provision made to carry off storm water which - during the rec'ont heavy rains'' had caused- : damage;, (5) about 18 chains of the main -road had 'been metalled ; partly from Parkvale Quarry' and partly ' from Makara. Hill.'Quarry, CQ yards spread' on Makara Hill .and'7o yards on South Karori Road; (6) it was found necessary to construct a platform bridge across the new stream deviation on the Lancaster Estate to enable carts,to cross to depot.; and' (7) an old culvert oil Parkviilo Road, near WsitersV property, hail fallen in, blocking the road, and that bad been remedied by. the' laying, pf 33ft. of a 12m. pipe culvert.
