The..-fortnightly meeting of thePetono BorOugh Council was held on Monday niglit. Thero were present His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), and Councillors Colquhoun, Castle; Scuthgato, Lodder, Dr. Harding, Cole, YoUng, Smith, and. Short. A letter was received from the Minister for Labour ill reply to a letter sent asking the Department to fence land at Horotauilga Hamlet; Petoue. The Minister, stated that the bylaws do not in any way bind the Crown, nor did the Sections mentioned'endanger the ! pub-, • lis safety. Councillor Castle-moved that' acdpy of the letter bo sent on. to the member': to be brought up in tho House.
