Tho first witness called was ' tho traffic manager (Mr. W. D. Lysaght), who gavo a general denial to the accusations mado..against liinv Ho had not, ho said, suggested to any ilispootor that 116 should get female detectives to assist him in his duties, neither had ho mad? such sweeping accusations as alleged against the honesty of conductors, and lie also refuted tho assertion that lie had given instructions to "inspectors to spy on conductors and motormen. Ho stated,' howovcr,that, in consequence of instructions received, ho had instructed inspectors to check tho time-table, and tho only common-sense method by which they could do this was by keeping out of sight. Other witnesses called also .refuted the imputations made, and declared that they had always received fair treatment at tlie hands of Mr. Lysaght.
