MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.
. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Makara County Council was held on Saturday, there being present: Councillors Hawkins (chairman), Bryant, Monk, Moore, Eastwood, and Haggorty. Accounts amounting to £321 were passed, for payment; . ' On tho motion of Councillor Bryant, it was decided that owing to the ■ excessive traffic through the Porirua township in connection with tho"Mental Hospital, and the fact that tho Makara County Council does not receive any rate therefrom, that the member for the district, Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., be'written to, with'a view to having a' votq. for £150 placed on the-Estimates for'a new bridge in tho township. ' Councillor Bryant drew attention i to tho condition of the culvert in tho of Best's property. in' Oliariu Valley;-the pipe 3 owing to the recent heavy rains, had cradlced from end to end. It was deoided to effect temporary repairs in the meantime. Tho encroachment of tho Ohariu stream on the bridge near the cross-roads-was also referred to, and it was agreed that deadwood fascines placed in. position:at (certain points would suffice to prevent further inroads boing made. ' .-i.ij.ji Councillor Moore pointed out that the new road'through- the .Hawtrey Estate, Johnspnvillc, had not been connected with tho town district roads. As the new school was to bo erected on this locality, he moved that'application be made to tho Roads Department .for this work to be done, in ordor that suitable access to the school would bo available. The motion was adopted. . On the' '-motion of Councillor Moore, seconded by 'Councillor) Eastwood, it .was decided that 50 extra yards of; metal, be.'granted for thp Tawa Plat ..Road,and 25 .yards for Porirua. .
