In connection with his mission ,on behalf of the New South Wales Government to inquire into marine fishery mattersj Sir Joseph Carruthers (formerly Premier of New South Wales) has visited twenty ports in England and Scotland, and has spent a considerable time in investigating the methods of trawling aud of the oauuing and curing factories at Aberdeen. He is preparing an extensive re'-' port, and is making important recommendations. . | SCOTCH FISHERMEN FOR NEW SOUTH' ' WALES. ■ Sydney, July 10. I London, July ICL A third victim of ptomaine poisoning at Saint Anne's-on-the-Sea,; Lancashire—where over 100 persons were poisoned through eating sandwiches made of bad potted meat—has succumbed. '".i Melbourne, July 10. The death is announced of Sir Thomas Naghten Fitzgerald, aged 69 years, formerly houso surgeon to the Melbourne hospital. The late Dr. Sir T. Fitzgerald belonged to' the well-known South of Ireland family, of. that; name, and, therefore, to the Kerry Blennerhassetts and Eagars, some members of the latter families being resident in Now Zealand. He arrived in Melbourne in 1858, and has been,honorary surgeon to'the hospital since , 186 Q. Hp . published a puinbor of papers on ' surgical subjects. . , ' Sydney, July 11. A private cablo message announces, tho death in London of Sir William Farmer, who was Sheriff of London in 1890-91, and also chaifman of directors of tho Sydney firm' of Farmor and Company. -
