WILL THEY STRIKE?

THE TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES' DEMANDS. : A meeting Jot the Tramway Employees' Union was held at Newtown yesterday morning, when the subject of increased wages came up for discussion. - A reporter was given to understand that tho proposal to strike was • promptly discouraged. V . , _ Speaking on this matter, a conductor ..said / .that, it was very unlikely that a strike would take place, because tho men knew when they were well off.' They had been earning good wages, and their employment was probably ono of tho best of tho class in Wellington. It was probably somo of thoso who would not work hard enough to tarn what somo of tho others did who wanted to.strike. Somo of the moil had wives and children to support, and if somo struck, well, that was their 1 affair, ho personally would not do so, and thero wcro a number of others similarly situated. What would militate against tho success of a striko was the fact that it would bo so easy to get other men. . Inquiries in other quarters confirmed the abovo remarks, but thero is a rumour that the men will go on strike at lioon tenday.
