HEAVY. WEATHER, Most 'of ' tho vessels that arrived in port yesterday report-that heavy weather was experienced outside. On the voyage from Napier the Talune had a rough passage, which occupied '20_ hours. Coming' down tho' West Coast from New Plymouth, tho Rotoiti had a rough timo. As the result of heavy seas flooding her decks, a couplo of, hatchway covers came adrift. A cross sea was experienced by tho Ulimaroa and Maori on their run from Lyttelton yesterday. The Jano Douglas, which loft Waiiganui on Thursday for Wellington, put back through stress 'of weather, and the Huia, which left the same port on Thursday aftornoon for Wellington, up to a late hour last night had not reached Wellington. METEOROLOGICAL. .SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS. For a considerable poriod, a number of tho shipping fraternity have been complaining of the insufficient details givon on the daily weather report. It was pointed out to : a Dominion reporter yesterday that the weather recorded at Now Plymouth was incomplete without that of Cape Egmont included, which, though only a few miles away, as a rulo differed considerably. Another point'raised was that of having vessels which passed Stephen's Island reported on the telegraph board at the G.P.O-, as steamers frequently passed Cape Farewell too far away to bo reported. A further suggestion ■ was . that, as Stephen's Island was now connected with telephone, that a daily'record of the weather conditions added to the already long list would bo of great advantage to those interested in shipping matters. Captain Harris, late master of the Union Company's steamer Pukaki, goes south from "Wellington for orders. It is expected that the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Ruapehu will leave Lyttelton for Napier this evening. This morning, the New Zealand Shipping Company's'steamer Kaikoura leaves Wellington for Picton, whero she is to await instructions. It is reported that the barque Ashmore, 1099 tons, has been chartered to. load timber at Bunbury, for a Dominion port, probably. Dunedin. Yesterday the Rotoiti brought 6064 ft. of'timber from Onohunga, 500 boxes of butter, and 16 casks of runners from New Plymouth, for discharge at Wellington.- ... At-ten o'clock yesterday morning, the Union Company'sstoamer Kittawa arrived in Greymouth from Wellington. She is timed to leave for Wellington again to-day. At seven o'clock on Thursday evening, the Union Company's steamer Mapourika left Greymouth for Westport, where she arrived at two o'clock yfesterday morning. The vessel, which has yet to call at Nelson, is due here to-day. The Tyser liner Star of Australia; which arrived at Auckland from Sydney - this week, was delayed about twenty-four hours en route in consequence of a heavy gale. Tho vessel is duo in Wellington about July 16. 1 The Union Company advise that the Kamona was expected to leave Westport last, night for Wellington, and tho Komata on a similar errand is to leave to-night. Tho Rakanoa is fixed to take dojjrirture from Westport to-day for tho New Hebrides. Lyttelton advices to hand state that tho Union Company's collier Waipori was expected to leave there last night for Wellington. The pinion of her steam steering gear, which was carried away on her run from Westport to Lyttelton, has been repaired. , It is some tiino since any mention has been mado of the Union Company's turbine clipper Maori's steaming powers. On tho run from Lyttolton to Capo Campbell on Thursday evening, it is staled, she avoraged 20.3 knots ,an hour. "
