ROYAL COURT.

DIRECTOIRE GOWNS. The third court of the season held at Buckingham Palace was (according to tho London "Daily Mail"} (juite a Court of debutantes, and very girlish and pretty wero most of their gowns, white and silver being as a rule the favourito wear, not a few wearing trains of chiffon over silver. It was noticeable that many~of the gowns worn were a modified form of tho Directoire style, concerning which there has been so much discussion lately. It was noticeable, too, that quantities of valuable lace were .worn, many lino examples of point do Venise, d'Alencon, Flemish, Brussels, and Irish lace being used. All colours seemed fashionable. Nattier blue being in all probability the most popular, for blue at present is the prevailing colour in Paris. Silver and gold tissue, which somo years ago was considered rather outre, also played a vory prominent part in the scheme of dress, and it must be confessed that the effect is striking and brilliant in the extreme. As usual, on an occasion like this, all the ladies present wore • their most lovely jewels, and it was particularly noticeable how far more all-round crowns of diamonds were worn than there used to be. One of the finest examples of these ornaments was that worn by the Duohess of Bedford, which is very high and composed of superb white stonca.
