PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wns held yesterday afternoon, Mr. J. Ilott occupying tho chair. There were also present: Mrs. Kernot, Messrs. Watson, SJ. S. Jameson, G. Broivn, and the • Inspector (Mr. Seed).
Reporting' on ■ tho recent Conference, Mr. G. Brown, tho delegate, said that a Board of Advice would be set up instead of a Board of Control as originally proposed. He thought the Society should have permanent offices. Regarding offices, the Chairman pointed out that the Society had,the freo use of the present offices (in the Chamber of Commerce). It was agreed that the Conference had dono good work, arid a hearty voto of thanks was accorded the delegates (Messrs.- Brown and Seed). /
A letter wa's received from Mr. K. M'lvor, Blenheim, stating that it was proposed to form a society in that town, and asking for rules, etc. The secretary was instructed to supply tho requisite information.
The Inspector referred to a recent case, and . mentioned that he was taken by surprise when' the defending counsel, Mr. Wilford,' challenged the Inspector's credentials. Mr. Wilford pressed the point and the case could not'be heard. This was the first time such'a thing had occurred, and several witnesses were put to inconvenience. He would take care that it did not recur.
