Tho Railway Department'wrote' stating that tho Council must at, onco remove, tha ballast in the Taihape- .depot, as ov/ing to alterations to' station ..yard it will be .'necessary t<} widen tho embankmont. This comes at an awkward time, as tho metal , cannot now bo placed upon the roads. ; , " ■■■■>'. . .The Manawatu County ..Council,wrote, asking tho Council's support in .urging . the Government to extend thoscopo of the. .Local Bodies Loans, Act.' It-was resolved-that tlioCouncil support tho Manawatu County .Conn-: oil,-and at tho same time urge the; necessity of increased borrowing. power/ for' tho larger counties. Tho.chairman. was appointed .to re-' present the Council, on., this'deputation.' ■
Mr. Mair, engineer', reported haviiig attended the Land. Board meoting .at Wellington, when the whole .practice of ." thirds ", expenditure was reviewed...; As an.outcome tho Board has now decided, to. accept, tho Council's : inthe'-'usual; way, -afterwhich the Board! Iwill refer, thoin to an. out-., sido departmental officer, ..'presumably tho. Crown land ranger, who in turn .will report; to tho Board. If then'it is found tho. proposals are bona fide for tho'.benefit of giving access to the sections front which tho.,money has accrued, the Board will officially, agree to tho expenditure. This .method should ■greatly .simplify the process in iuturo,; and lie hoped at an early date-to be able to practically clear up the "thirds" schcdulo, . and' utiliso a lot of money..previously lying, idlo and of no, use to anybody.
