———« : — ' SOLDIERS poisoned; ALLEGED DISLOYALTY OF NATIVE TROOPS. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) Paris, July 3. Several native non-commissioned officers at Hanoi, capital of the French colony of Tongking, wore courtmartialled on a charge of inciting Tongkinese to rise against tho French. ' ■ Since, the prisoners were arrested, 200: European soldiers at Hanoi showed symptoms' of poisoning, but recovered under prompt treatment. ■, In French Indo-China, of which Tongking is one of the principal colonies, France has had considerable trouble on the border, both with Chinese rebels and with Chinese regulars; but this is tho first time that disaffection in tho French-drilled native army has boon cabled. The extent to which France depends on native levies is shown by tho fact that in 1907 there were 18,427-native soldiers in the colony, to 14,309 French.
