CANTERBURY DEFEATS WELLINGTON. Tho match under Australian rules, between Wellington and Canterbury representative teams,' was played at Miramar on Saturday, tho Basin Reserve, which was to have seen tho contest, being adjudged too wet for play. The ground allocated for tho match at Miramar was very rough, wet, and generally unsatisfactory, making it quite impossible 'for tlio rival teams t'o exhibit properly tho lino points of tho game. Under the circumstances, tho match was as good an exposition of Victorian football as anyono could have expectcd. Play was. fast throughout, and the gamo was contested in an excellent spirit. . Tho Canterbury men -won after a close struggle, and it was generally agreed that they, deserved their victory. Wellington led during tho first-quarter of the game, which ended with 21 points to 7 in tlioir favour. In tho second quarter, tho Canterbury team mado a great effort, which brought tiieni within oho point of their opponents, tho scores standing: Wellington, 35; Canterbury, l - 3d. Thereafter it was Canterbury's gamo. Tho third quarter ended: Canterbury, 49; Wellington, 43; and tho final result was:—

' Canterbury—G9 points (10 goals, 9 behinds). Wellington—s6 points (8 goals, 8 behinds).
