ARCHITECTURE AS A PROFESSION FOR WOMEN.
Architecture as ■ a profession' for women, it is reported in the "Building World," was discussed by Mr. Weir Schultz at a conference held at Caxton Hall, Westminster, to consider the question of employments for educated women.
, The profession, he said, was arduous, entailing; apart from artistic sentiment, a large amount of scientific knowledge and much tact and knowledge of men and women. "
Study should begin early for the architect, and he saw no obstacle in the way of properly-trained women being successful in. the profession, but they would have to overcome many prejudices; notably among the architects and tlieir assistants.
It would not bo easy to persuade clients that women could practically supervise works in execution, and they would probably find somo difficulty in climbing • ladders and scrambling about scaffolding. i Many architects .were ready to accept women as pupils. Womfin should not take up architecture unless they had the means of waiting.until they obtained, work.
