: The Prime Minister yesterda.y announced that the Conciliation Arbitration Act Amendment Bill would bo brought down by Governor's Message on Tuesday afternoon next. ' Mr. Massey asked tho Minister, for Lands yesterday whether he intended to give tho Houso ail opportunity of considering tho Stock Act Amendment Bill this- session. He understood there was. great dissatisfaction in the country at tho method of valuing diseased- animals that were ordered to bo slaughtered. The Minister replied that ho would mako a statement lator on.
The sessional committees of the House will bo for the most part the samo as last year. It is proposed that the Labour Bills Committee shall consist of tho following Messrs. Alison, Arnold,. Barber, Bollard, Jill, Hardy, Poole, Tannor, Sir J. G. Ward, and the Hon. J. Millarl I -
During. the year ended March 31, 1908, 2928 head of cattle and ten pigs were condemned by inspectors and slaughtered under tho .Stock Amendment Act, 1898. Tho total amount paid in compensation was £5124 3s. 6d.
; Mr. Barber wants to know why tho approach to the workers' dwellings in Seddon Terrace has been left in such an unsatisfactory and unfinished state, and if tho Government will issue instructions to have .the road completed before somo, accident occurs.
Tho Meiklo Acquittal Bill was circulated in tho Houso yesterday. It is essentially tho same as tho measure of last year. It proposes to reverso the judgment of tho Supremo Court on Meiklo and to expunge his name from tho criminal records. Last year's opponents of the moasuro state they will opposo tho passage of this Bill siuco - it is not a criminal appeal Bill, or else they will endeavour to have the names of other persons included with Meiklo's. In this connection
it might bo montioned that a petition was read in tho House yesterday from A. J. Frocbody (Wairarapa),_ praying for compensation for wrongful imprisonment ill 188 G.
Tho New Zealand Sotliety of Accountants Bill, which has been introduced by Sir Joseph Ward, proposal to establish a corporate body consisting of qualified accountants, and having power to mako provision for tho training and examination of members of that profession, and generally to pumnto in such manner as it thinks fit tho efficient practice of that profession in New Zealand. It is stated that tho Bill confers no monopoly and no coercive power over persons who aro not members of the socioty,
savo that by clause 32 no person other than a member is at liberty to use in connection with /liia business tho terms registered accountant or public accountant.
