Baldwin Malet, ■ tho fourth baronet, was born oil October 10, 1537, and entered the diplomatic service. Ho was appointed attache at Frankfort in 185 i, and went to tho following posts in consecutive advancement:—Argentino Confederation, .Washington,' Constantinople, 'Paris, Peking, Athens, , : Home, Cairo, Brussels, Berlin. Ho was in. charge, of tlie. Embassy-at Paris during tho Commune, and became Minister Plenipoten- ' tiary at Constantinople at the conclusion of the Riisso-Turkish war. Ho was in the samo rank at Cairo' during the British campaign in 1882, was British Representative at tho African Conference in. Berlin, and signed tho treaty whcli resulted from it in 18S5. From 1900 to .1906 he was a member of the International ' Court of Arbitration at Tho Hague.
