"THE DOMINION " AND THE FARMERS.

... In reference to a paragraph which appeared in our issue of Saturday regarding 'the .'remarks made by Mr. C. C. Lang in respect to The Dominion's farming news, Mr/ Larig states that our "representative'.s imagination is at fault," and that he (Mr; Lang) did not particulariso any one paper, but spoke collcctively of tho Press, merely mentioning that ho' had not the pleasure of knowing the representative of The Dominion. , inferring to the above matter, our Palmerston North correspondent states that Mr. G.'H. Green, who sat opposite Mr. Lang at tho snioko concert, states that Mr. Lang made reference to The Dominion, and said that it was recognised by dairymen as a loading .factor and gave special attention to reports oil the' dairying industry in New Zealand. Mr. J. Freeman, who sat alongside'tho two Dominion representatives, says. lie remembered Mr. Lang stating, when referring to the toast of the Press, that he was not personally acquainted with the agricultural editor,i and he stumbled over the;name, but he knew Mr. Hardcastle. Ho then ,went on to say something about The Dominion; but he could not remember what it was. Mr. H. Best,-farmer, who was present'at tho concert, heard Mr. Lang single out The Dominion. The hour was late and' he did not pay particular attention. He would not . say Mr. Lang used - the exact words as stated in Tee Dominion, but was satisfied that Mr. Lang did single out The Dominion as being of special use; to dairymen. , Communicated with by telephone, Mr. WC. Buchanan, who was present at the smoke concert,, says that he heard. Mr. Lang's speech. He remembers Mr. Lang's reference, to the agricultural writer of The Dominion, and adds that Mr. Lang spoke in the highest terms of The Dominion's reports,of the, show. Mr. Henry R.' Bunny, president of the Wairarapa ,A. and P. Society, corroborates Mr. Buchanan's account of the incident..;'. fit is plain that whatever Mr. Lang intended to say, he certainly gave , his hearers the impression that ho' shared everybody else's . high opinion of The Dominion. Our space is of courso open to him for a full statement ;of what he; really does .think of The Dominion as a newspaper.—Ed.]
