Mr. A. : H Dewar, -a special agent for ' Queensland Crown Lands, expresses his appreciation of the very unbiased statement appearing in these columns on June 8: from Mr. F; A; _Hoskings, of Masterton, who, in common with many other New. Zealanders, has acquired a block of land on the Darling Downs. The fact that. Messrs. Donnelly ana Grigg, of Haivko's Bay, and the Hon. J. D. Ormond have acquired Ir.rge Queensland holdings is (says Mr. Dewar) a guarantee that better value's are: to bo obtained there than in New Zealand. Persons travelling in search . of land are granted a-frco railway pass, and after selection a free'railway pass is.granted ' for the settler's family, furniture, implements, seed, etc., and;a freight concession of 25 per cent, on fencing or building mate- , rial. Advances are rnadp under the Agri- , , cultural Bank Act upon improvements and for the purpose of purchasing stock/ seed, or implements,: repayablo in 25 years. The terms of payment for land aro exceptionally liberal. Land thrown open as-homestead selections can: be'acquired ■at 2s. 6d. per acre, pavablo at tho rato of 3d. per acre per annum. At present - large areas of Downs country are open at 10s. per acre on easy terms. Mr. Dewar, who will bo staying at tho Empire Hotel, Wellington, for a few days,' will be pleased to supply a plan showing avonigo rainfall in tho various localities and other information.
