Robert Sievier was arrested during the progress of tho racing at Sandown Park, and was taken to Bow Street Police Court, on an information laid by. J. B. Joel. It is understood tho arrest was made owing to the persistent publication of alleged libels in the sporting paper-the "Winning Post." Tho-warrant charges Sievier witfli making threats to publisli defamatory matter concerning Joel, for tho purposo of extorting £5000, Sievier will be charged to-morrow. Robert Sutton Sievier was at one timo a bookmaker in Australia, but ho is best known as the former owner of Sceptre, and as proprietor of the "Winning Post." With Sceptro he won tho Two Thousand Guineas, Ono Thousand Guineas, and tho Oaks in 1902, and afterwards sold the filly for ,£25,000. He was for somo timo disqualified-on tho English turf, but has recently been reinstated. . Air. J. B. Joel played a prominent part on tho turf last season, winning the Oaks with Glass Doll, and occupying second position on the list of winning owners. He is >a nophow of tho late Barney Barnato, and has extensive interests in the Kimberley diamond mines.
