July 25, 5 a.m. ' Mr. A. Mearns, third officer of the Whangape, has transferred 1 , to the Kittawa. . Captains Lacy and Aid well of the .Union •Company's: service loft .Wellington by tho Rotoiti last night. , ; . It is reported that the barque' Don, 1070 tons, has beon chartered to lpad general cargo at Loudon for New Zealand optional ports. Mr. W. Eoberts, late third officer of the Flora, has joined the ; Waipori in a similar capacity, and Mr. T. G. Couldrey, late of the lofua, has joined tho Pukaki as third officer. In consequence of a stiff nor'-easter at Lyttelton on Tuesday tho Corinthic had some trouble in berthing, says an exchange. Two hawsers were broken, and nearly two hours elapsed before tho big liner was moored at tho wharf. I * On Saturday word was received bvthe Marine Department that the Hinemoa had worked Capo Campbell and Cape Palliser lighthouses and that sho was discharging stores at Stephens Island. The vessel is exported back in port towards the end of this week. An exchange reports that during her overhaul at Port Chalmers this trip tho Monowai had Cumberland's patent electrodes fitted to her boilers and water tanks. The object of this intention is to counteract tho corrosivo effects of water on .the plates, which is thereby transferred to tho elcctrodes, which are of courso, easily renewed. According to tho Otngo "Daily Times," tho barque Onyx has been, practically dismantled and shorn of her glory by having all her topmasts, spars, running gear, etc., stripped ofl, only/her lower masts being loft.;. Asa natural result sho now; cuts a sorry figure by comparison with by-gone days, and is now almost ready to go on ,-tho retired list iu tho humble, but eminently useful, capacity of .» coal hulk, and will, wo (understand, find a renting place at Lyttelton {shortly.
