TARANAKI V. WELLINGTON. A WIN' FOR THE VISITORS. •' The school rep; match, Taranaki yi Wellington, arranged to be. played oh Saturday at tho Athletic Park immediately before tho big test match, had, owing to tho condition' of . the Park, to be played at tho RecreationGround, Petone. About 150 spectators were" present at-tho match, which was an exciting, contest, and ■ resulted in ; a win for T.iranaki by I' 3 points- to nil. Taranaki (Yellow) kicked, off, and the ball was soon carried: into the Wellington (Black) territory. A scrum eventuated, from- which Cowan scoured the ball,-and passed to Gilbert, who managed to ; roach Taranaki's twenty-five. There ; tW ball fell into the hands of Wood, who' trans-forred-to Malone. Tho latter gbt well:up before .running into touch.. Tho visitors were frequently penalised' for "off-side," and missed thereby one or two good chances to score.- Cowan (Wellington), who was playing a sound game, got tho ball well over - tho half-way " line, and from a series of scrummages which followed, Adams (Wellington half) passed to Cowan (five-eighths), who handed- it -to Morrison, but tho latter was successfully .tackled- by -.Nicliol.- Carshill next, gained-tho-ball-from a scrum, and got through' for- Taranaki, -but Symes failed to convert. . •- -' - - !
- Good work was. dono in the second spell by .Brown, Wood, Murphy, and Malone, : who as- • sailed • -the- Wellington territory success-fully;;-Brown, scored neatly after, a splendid rush, and -Malone- converted."Tho defenco, ""wiis too weak to-.withstand the heavy rushes of the' 'Yellows,- and Symos- was conspicuous in securing their third try, which Malone converted.
