KUBELIK; ' To-night at the ToiVh Hall, Kubelik, tho world-famous violinist;',yrill give tho firsfof his series of concerts I '/in Wellington. Of [ all the musical stars now before tho public, Kubelik is perhaps the most'interesting. At the 1 age of twenty-eight, he has reached the proud pre-emineuco 'of'being considered tho foremost violinist-of-tlie. day, and has taken by. storm the musical world of, Europe, Britain," and .'America." His career has been meteoric in its brilliancy. While at.-the height of his fame lie has come to the States and the and' his tour so far lias .brought. the musical people of Australia to his, feet:; Of his opening concert in tho Sydney Town Hall ono of the local critics says: "He conquered' the combined heart of the audience with the. first sweep of his magic bow;. ; Kubelik is so young, so marvellous in his supreme control over liis emotions, and so divine aii 'artist, without a trace of affectation or mannerism,; that any attempt at criticism would bo an impertinenco. His slender boyish hands possess the power of drawing from his instrument all there is in music, sweetness and sadness, tenderness jyid roughness, swaying his hearers to smiles or prayers just as the artist wills."
To-night Kubelik will play the "Concerto ra E minor " by Mendelssohn; the " Preislied " from " Dio Meistersinger " (Wagner Wilhelmj), "Praeludium ". "Tho Prince Chap " •is described as a play of inj.tense bpauty, owing its success to its naturalness. It is said to represent tho dual powers of pathos and comedy skilfully blended Mr. Rooerts will be supported by a selected company of English and American artists. Tho season will bo limited to seven nights, with a matinco performance. The box plan will be. opened at Holliday's on Wednesday next. OLYMPIA SKATING RINK.
