A meeting of the Cabinet was held yesterday, when the following expenditures oil railway construction were authorised: — £ Orepuki-Waiau 250 Midland ...' 3148 North Island Main Trunk 1500 Blenheim-Waipara ... ... / ... 2000 Culverden-Hanmor ... ' ...' ... 350 Tho expenditure of £31,763 for railway material was authorised; also the . expenditure of £5000 on machinery for railway workshops. . ... The following sums, for buildings .were authorised: —Superintendent's residence at Auckland Mental Hospital, £1300; school at, Kakahi (Main Trunk Lino), £J00; teacher's residence at Waipuku, £'100 (the existing house to bo sold); work at Invcxcargill gaol, £250. Tho lowest tender, for a police residence at Kaiapoi was accepted. Tho extension of the sower along Waterloo Quay, Wellington, was'authorised. It was decided to spend £1161 on bridle tracks on tho Makirio Block (Taranaki), and £500 for tho continuation of a dray road through Awarua I B Block (Rangitik'ei).
