All tho Ministers of the Crown are in town to-day. • Mr. R. B. Ross, M.P. for Pahiatua, arrived in Wellington yesterday. Tho Hon. G. Fowlds, Minister for Education, returned from Palmerston North yesterday. Mr. D. Robertson, secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, is at present on a brief visit to tho South Island. Tho appointment of Mr. T. T. Hugo as Inspector of Fire Brigades, under the Fire Brigades Act, 1907, is gazetted. Tho resignation of Mr. R. M'ln tosh, Assistant Inspector of Mines for' Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, is gazetted. Messrs. T. AV. . Kirk, R. Gibb, and W. B. Bray and Misses Lena Livesay; and Olive Kent are gazetted as Inspectors under the Apiaries Act. Tho Wellington Education Board at its meeting yesterday accepted tho resignation of Mr. A. Roydhouse, Carterton, and Miss D. Glasgow, Island Bay. Mr. AY. W. Scott, teacher in charge of Mangamairo School, who recently mot with ail accident, has been granted leave of absence by the Education Board. Mr. A. W. Brailsford, Mr. and MrS. H. Gamble, and Mr. C. Onyon aro passengers for Wellington by tho Ruapehu, due hero ' from London on July 2. A notice in tho Gazette states that Mr. Daniol O'Rourka has been appointed Registrar of Marriages, Births, and Deaths for the l district of Pahiatua. The Hon. A. R. Guinness (Speaker of the House of Representatives) and Mrs. Guinness have arrived in Wellington in anticipation of tho opening of tho session; |Tho Governor has accepted the resignations of Messrs. Isaac M'Leod (Helensville), W. H. Smith (Havelock, Marlborough), and T. TJrwin (Bluff) as Justices of'the Peace. It is notified.in the Gazette that Messrs.W. E,' A. Slack, C. Lewer, H. Akers, and H. Vile, all of Palmerston North, have been appointed officers' under , the Fisheries Conservation. Act. Wood, J.P., D.L., of Belmont, Sidmouth (England), Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hat-ton Miller, of Wellington, will benefit substantially. Mr. Wood was a man of considerable wealth, which ho disbursed from time to, time with great liberality. He and his late wife gavo the sito and £30,000 for thb establishment of tho hospital of St. Cross at Rugby; Mrs. Wood at ono tirao presented £500 to tho Sidmouth Cottage Hospital, and shortly beforo,his death Mr. Wood presented £1000 to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital aa a memorial to his wife. Tho deceased gentlo man was at one' time Deputy-Lieutenant foi tho counties of Warwickshire and Merionethshire, and was Sheriff of tho latter count} in 1899. Ho was in his ninetieth year.
