JOURNALISTS INSTITUTE.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tho Wellington branch of the New Zealand Institute of. Journalists,was hold yesterday. Mr. F. K. Reeves presided, and about ten . members .were present. ', Tho annual report stated that the year had been marked by a little moro virility, so far as tho affairs of ( tho Instituto were concerned. Tho general secretary (Mr. Wheeler) had issued a monthly list of positions for which capable journalists were offering their services, and they had proved a great advantago to soveral. Tho branch had received soveral accessions to its ranks during the last twelve months. Congratulatory reference was mado in tho report to the appointment of a member of tho Institute (Mr. Guy H. Scholefiold) to a position as 'London correspondent of soveral associated 'newspapers, in succession to tho lato Mr. C. EousMarten.
The balance-sheet showed a credit of >£29 Is. 3d. , ■■■■•.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted.. A committeo was set up to go into tho question of holding a social function for journalists. | Tho following motion was carried"That tho delegates to tho annual meeting bo instructed to bring under.tho notice of tho Council of tho Institute that thero is a tendency in some quarters to make unfair and unjust imputations against members of tho Instituto in tho professional capacity." Tho branch's representatives were also instructed to bring beforo delegates tho question of standardising tho tiiiio recognised as notice of dismissal.
Office-bearers were elected for tho year as follow President, Mr. F. Iv. Reeves; lion, secretary, Mr. .M.C. Keano; lion, treasurer," Mr. J. J. Grealish; committee, Messrs Malcolm Ross, C. Wheeler, L. S. Fannine F. Earle, C. Weston, C. Jewell, and E. v! Hall; Qualifications Committee, Messrs. W. H. Atack, G. P. Brown, and F. Eearlo; delegates, Messrs. M. C. Keane and L. S. Fanning. '
Votes of thanks woro passed to tho rotirmg President (Mr. T. L. Mills), and tho Secrotary (Mr. G. P. Brown). ■ A motion congratulating Mr. Scholefiold - on his appoiutmont to London was. also passed.
