Tho first day's racing of tho Napier Park Racing Club's Winter Meeting was wsllat- < tended, although tho weather was dull, cold, and threatening. The sum of £0343 was invested on tho totalisator, as compared with £7835 for tho first day last year. Twelve licensed bookmakers were on tho ground, and did good business, seven operating in ,tho 011closuroat a fee of £20 10s. each, and five outside at £10 10s. each. Tho following aro the results:—

At the'back Hatley and Letherin had drawn away from tho others,' and approaching the straight Hatley gavo way to Letherin, who won comfortably by three lengths.
