Tom Mann, at the conclusion of a. ■ Socialistic address here last night, replied to Dh ' recent speech at Wellington i . Mr. Mann' said Dr. Findlay's figures ,'showing the wages and profits earned in th'e Dominion at thirty-four millions worked,,out' at £37 per head of the population; whilo'the average production of the forty-two millions in the. United Kingdom worked out at £45 . p'er ;; • He. declined to believe that the "New. Zealand' workers were so inferior .' to tho Home workers-as these figures indicated.' He did.-not think Dr. Findlay had stated the position fully or fairly. Ho had given them ■ 'no basis on which'to test his figure's, aiid it. was impossible .to make top or tail of them. . Tho Registrar-General's figures showed the ' value, of.:tho. annual production of the Dominion' ait. forty-one millions, and with a • population ; of 900,000' this" worked, out at the same average as at Homo, £45 par .head. Ho preferred to accept these , - figures'in, preference to those by Dr. Findlay, whose' desire was to cut "the ground from under tho feet of tho Socialists. iMr. Mann, denounced the present, Cabinet as anti-Social- : istic and Sir Joseph Ward as a pHvato enterprise Premier: In regard to land nationalisation, Mr. Mann said this brought about, by a graduated tax of threepence in the shilling in the first year, and further in-. '■. creases of tho same'amount every five years.
