PROVINCIAL ASSOCIATION, Messrs. R. "Bcere (Chairman), B. Green, C. Lawrence, J. O'Leary;.- J. - Hogben, A. Fair, and A. H. Kimbell (secretary), were present at a meeting of the : Wellington Lawn Tennis Association, held -in the Phoenix Insurance Co.'s -office,-last, evening. ■ A letter was received : from tho Wellington Steam, Ferry Go.s asking what tho intentions of the Association were in respect of tho Day's Bay ground, The Company said that if the Association was prepared to enter int-o a definite arrangement, say for four or five years, it- would--lengthen the ground. In respect to this, matter, it was resolved that the clubs be written to- asking them to instruct their delegates in respect, to tho Day's Bay scheme.,either the one.proposed or;any other'.-: _ ;.Vv v. , After a discussion, it was resolved to support tho action of '.the, New Zealand Association in adopting the Sykes tennis ball. It was also proposed that the Sykes ball ba used at "tho next Wellington Association's tournament. The secretary pointed out that they were leaping in the dark in adopting the Sykes ball; which 90 per cent, of the. players had not, he thought, seen;'let-alone playod with. ' A delegate said lis ,it.' : w#s- nit der'stood tho importing houses harl/cancelled; their orders for other balls, they rihis'Vrii'ake a decision. The motion was carried. Itwas also resolved that the Sykes ball he used for inter-club competitions during the'.ensuing year. A letter from the tocal agents stated that the price'of Sykes balls was 15s. per dozen, net cash. In reply to aietter forwarded by tho secretary on' tho matter of securing nart-s of. city reserves for grounds, Mr. J. P. Luke said that the Reserves Committee of. tho City Council had not lost, sight of the re-' ouest made by tho Association. "You are doubtless aware," wroto Mr. Luke, "that, the Committee cave you a very sympathetic, assurance that tliev would uso their influence to get tho Council to agree to tho principle that portions of the reserves should' be leased out to bona-fide sports clabs, . and to that end they wero successful in getting tho Council to instruct the Cit.v 1 Solicitor 'to draft a\ Bill to be submitted to the next session of Parliament to enable the Council to do what we promised your Association."
