KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Karori Borough Council. mot last night, lyhen there were .present:—The Mayor (Mr. C..1. Dasent), and Councillors Wedde, Harris, Bradnock, EaincQ Hammond, Spiers, and Lissington. Mrs. R. A. Davies wrote asking tho Council to niako an approach to her sections oii the main road. She had, sho stated, retrained from claiming compensation for tho lowering of tho road opposite her property. Tho engineer was instructed to report on tho matter to tho Works Committee. Tho Tramways and Electrical Engineer notified tho Council that ho had arranged for tho extension of tho ton minutes servico on tho .Karori lino on Saturday evenings from Juno 20. Hitherto, it was'stated, the servieo on Saturday nights was a twenty-, minutes one. Mr. Stuart J.'iichardson also mentioned that three new lamps had been elected in Johnston Street, Karori, which completed tho order for extensions. Tho engineer 'submitted an estimato of tho cost ofkerbing and channelling both sides of the main road from tho tram terminus to the Council Chambers. Tho figures were obtained with a view to providing in next year's estimates for tho cost of the proposed work. Upon the recommendation of tho Compensation Committee,, tho engineer was instructed to arrange' with Mr. Townsend regarding a settlement of his claim owing to the contractors cutting, slightly' into his property on tho Main road. It was also resolved to offer Mrs. E. Fisher £40 as compensation for sotting back tho road-lino in Friend Street. ■ \ - Councillor Lissington moved that arrangements bo mado'for a trial for ono month of a ten-minutes service between eight and nine in tho mornings. 'Tho accelerated service between thoso .hours would, ho thought, greatly benefit tho district. Councillor Weddo pointed out that a ton-minutes servieo, had been tried between seven and nino in tho mornings for somo months last year, and had resulted in a loss. In reply, Councillor Lissington said that tho population was larger now than" last'.yoar. Tho motion was lost by a largo majority. • ' ■ Tho Works Committco reported that it considered Mr. Raine had no claim on tho Council for tho laying of pipes through his property. Tho pipes, it held, wera Mr. liaino's private property. It-recommended that tho Engineer be allowed to make a survey of Chisonhall Street in accordance with Mr. Hammorton's letter, with a view to the Council constructing the street; Mr. Hammerton to bo charged with tho cost of tho survey, plans, and specification at schedule rates; tho rccOTimendation to be subject to the Council giving permission to, construct Bell Street. In respect of tho Golf Links Lstato streets extension plans and specifications, the committee recommended (1) that each street be constructed with storm water sowers and man holes,' the sewers to be shown jon tho plans; (2) that tho bottoming of tho roads be seven inches of second-class petal, fivo inches of 'first-class, and threo inches of approved blending, the metal to bo rolled with a road roller; (3) footpaths to bo gravelled, tarred, sanded, and rolled; (4) tho contractor bo- required to make good any damage done to existing roads caused bv excessive cartage; (6) sumps be in accordance with.tho borough standard sumps; (6)' to'conform with the regulations laid down by tho iKarori Borough 'Council, the plans and specifications be approved, for twelve months only. I'resh plans and specifications must be submitted if tho construction work' is not commenced within that period. That the swil of tho borough bo placed oii the transfer of part of a ftlosed road to Mr. M'Kay, and that the transfer be handed to Mr. M'Kay on payment of survey' fees,. and on his giving the Council a clear receipt for all claims for compensation.
