GOVERNOR JOHNSON. John A. Johnson, born at St. Peter (Minnesota) on July 2S, ISSI, is the son of Swedish parents. The care of the family devolving upon mm at tho ago of. 12 years, ho went to work in a drug store in St. Peter. Later, he obtained an interest in the St. Peter " Herald/' of which iu kccame editor. He was elected Governor in 1904 by, a somewhat narrow majority, receiving 148,091 votes as Democrat candidate, while the Kopnblican candidate (Mr. Dunn) got. 141,847 votes. In 1906 Minnesota gavo Mr. Johnson a ■ better'majority, as he polled 61.69 per cent. o£ the total vote, while tho Republican candidate (Mr. Cole) polled 34.03 per cent. Last month Governor Johnson was reported by a New York cablegram as declaring that "Americans must obliterate the imaginary line between tho. United . States and the Canadian States.""
