Dr. Pomare left for Wanganui yesterday. Mr. Harold Beauchamp was yesterday reflected chairman of the directors of tho Wellington Patent Slip Company for the ensuing year. \ Tho Socioty for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has expressed its cordial appreciation of the many courtesies extendod to it by Sub-Inspector O'Donovan, and its sincere rogret at his removal to another district. .
On'tho motion of tho v Mayor (Mr. Cf I. Dasent) tho Karori Council last night decided, to place oil record a resolution appreciative of tho valuable services rendered to tho borough by Mr. A. C. Pearco during tho term that he occupied the Mayoral chair.
His Excellency the Governor and Lady Plunket are to attend the first performance of "The Prince Chap" at Palmerston North this evening. To signalise the first visit of their Excellencies to the new municipal Opora House, the Palmerston North Borough Council and Mr. Allan Hamilton, have combined to have tho whole of the front of tho theatre olectrically illuminated. The Anglican Bishop of Christchurch (Dr. Julius) left for Christchurch last evoning. Mr. W. I'ivor, Secretary to the Now Zealand Employers' Federation, left for Palmerston North yesterday. • The Hon. George Fowlds, Colonel Davia, and Lieutenant Chesney left Onehuuga for tho South by the Ngapuhi yesterday afternoon. Mr. Fowlds is due at Palmerston North this afternoon; Mr. Geo. Portus, representing Messrs, John and Nevin Tait, has arrived in Dunedin to make arrangements for the Neif Zealand tours of " The Merrymakers," the Royal Welsh Choir, and. Mark Hambourgi the eminent pianist. Councillor Biss stated at the special meeting of tho City Council last evening that he-would be unable to act as one of tho Council's delegates to tho Municipal Conference, as he would be away from Wellington. Councillor Hindmarsh. was appointed in his stead. The Hon. C. M. Luke and Mr. F. M. B. I'isher, M.P., will guide through tho Legislative Council and House of Representatives respectively tho empowering Bills ' to be brought forward by the City Council in respect of Melrose drainage and the leasing of reserves. A Press Association message from Hawera states that Mr. B. C. Robbins, who for the past'twenty-five years has been a resident at Hawera, and has taken a loading part in the civic life of tho town, including that of Mayor, was yesterday afternoon farewelled by the citizens prior to bis .'departure - for Wellington, whero ho will in 'future reside. The Mayor (Mr. H. W. Sutton) presided, and with other speakers referred eulogistically to the many good services Mr. Robbins' had rendered to the borough. Mr. Robbins was alßo presented with an address, (accompanied by a purse of sovereigns), which expressed the, appreciation of tho citizens of his work as borough councillor and Mayor; Particular mention was made of .Mr.' Robbins's useful work in the interests of. education. Mr- Robbins also received a largo framed photograph of tho Borough Council while ho was Mayor last year. The meeting Concluded with cheers for Mr. and Mrs. Robbins. ,
