PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

Tho fortnightly meeting of tho Committeo of tho Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday, there bein" present:—Mrs. Cliristio, Messrs. Jameson ijn tho chair), Watson, J. G. W. Aitkcn M.P., Richardson, and Brown. '

Tlio following subscriptions were acknowledged : —Messrs. Mucky, Logan, Caldwell and Co., 10s. 'Gd.; Messrs. C. H. Dickerson and Te Aro, 10s. each; Messrs. I). Millignn, M'Eco and Co., liallinger Bros., 'and Dr. Mason, ss. each; Mr. F. Pinny, 35.; Messrs. M. G. 'Young, J. 13. Speed, Rash, E. J. Leydon, XYZ, Lieut.-Colonel Lovcdav, Mrs. CJ., and Friend, 2s. 6d.' each. Total, £3 13s. 6d.

Some discussion arcso regarding tho topics set doivu to be considered by the Conference of S.P.C.A. delegates to-morrow. Tho agenda paper had been drafted by tho Canterbury Society,'and tho question was raised as to what extent the local Society, through its delegates, was prepared ti. identify itself with tho programme. ties —tho tonics set down wore in accord with the principles of tho Iccal Society. Accounts amounting to £7 15s. were passed for . payment. The Inspector's report shoved that somo four or firo cases of alleged' cruelty had boon investigated, one being referred to the Society's solicitor.
