.The first meeting in the bankrupt ostute of Elizia Eintha 'Elliott was to havo been held yesterday morning, but it lapsed for want of.'a Quorum!
'In a written statement, debtor said that slid was the wife of Albert, Clarence Elliott, who on April 23 was adjudicated a bankrupt.: Prior to,his bankruptcy, she endorsed, at his request, arid for his convenience, threo promissory notes, as follows:—£so in favour of Miss M'Cammon, flf Christchurch; £300 in favour of Mrs. IJnowles, of Wellington; and £100-in favour of ,Mrs. Deal, of. Wellington. At the: time of endorsing the'promissory sha' was of. opinion that her husband v:as in'good-circumstances, and that it was only a matter of a short period before tho amounts would paid off. Since then it had been ascertained that her husband was financially embarrassed to. the extent of several,thousands of pounds, and that there was no. possible chance of his paying the amounts. She was being pressed for payment of somo of ; the promissory notes, and sho had no means whatever to enable her to pay. The total liability was £450, and there were no assets. ~ ,
• Examined by tho Assignee, Mrs. Elliott stated that_she. had no property of any description! The meeting nvas adjourned sine.die.
