. KUBELUL An Auckland .Press Association telegram 'states that Kubclik, the famous violinist, arrived from Sydney by the Mokoia on Sunday night, and' appeared before a large and enthusiastic audienco in the Royal Albert Hall yesterday evening.- The virtuoso's magnificent playing of . Paganini's " Witches' Danco," and Mendelssohn's " Conccrto " in E minor, roused the audienco to a pitch of enthusiasm which has seldom, if ever, before been witnessod in Auckland. Tlio artist was repeatedly encored, and on each reappearance was_ cheered to tho echo. : Kub'elik is accompanied by hi? wife, Countess Czaky Czell. Ho will give his second and last concert in Auckland to-mght. . ' 1 Amongst itiie many groat compositions in Knbelik s repertoire,' perhaps nothing is more popular than tho famous "Witches' Dance," by Paganini. This wondorful piece of music will be played by tho great violinist during his Wellington season, commencing on Saturday next. The musical critic of tho Melbourne " Age," thus describes Kubelik's -interpretation of it. "Paganini's 'Witches'- ' Danco' —the witches do not start danoing at once, it majvbo remarked, but only after an extended preface—showed tho bravura artist in tho full blaze'.of tho limelights. Nothing that human ingenuity has conceived in tho way of transcendent dif-. ficulty has boon left out. Harmonies, doublo stops, pizzicnti for the loft hand—everything was hore. Paganini had lot himaolf loose, and opened his wholo bag of tricks; and thore be thoso who avor that not since Paganini's timq has any player wrestled with and overcomo' these astounding difficulties as Kubelilc does. 13e this as it may, his performance literally took tho house by storm, and those who insistently, cried for an encoro got. all wanted. 'Lo Cygne,' of Saint Sa'ens, is a tender and withal almost a noble melody, and it was given with an exquisite, purity and refinement that mere words are too cold and lifeless to describe. When all is said and done,' this simple littlo piece of music was,' after all, tho climax of the wholo ovoning's entertainment," Thore will be three concerts in Wellington, namely, on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday nest, Juno 27, 29, and 30. Tho bos plan's are at the Dresden. /
