M'Villy occupy-. ing the chair. : • TEAM FOR NEW ZEALAND CHAMPION- . SHIPS. . The following were selected to represent Wellington ■at the New Zealand Championships at Christchurch in August:— Bantam-weight, Kerr (of Wellington), or if ho be unable, to compete Shields (of Manawatu). . _ • • ' '

'Feather-weight,' Porter:(of Blenheim). Light-weight, Watchhorn {of Manawatu), or if ho bo unable to participate Parry (of Wellington). Welter-weight, Devitfc (Wellington).' Middle-weight, Leckie (of Wellington); or if he be uhable to tali© part Murphy (of Wellington). ' ' - . Heavy-weight, M'Dowoll (Manawatu). . ■ Mr. T. Tracey was chosen as trainer. QUESTION OF STATUS. : ■ .The question of whether A. Leckie, who won the amateur middle-weight championship, had lost his amateur status, came up for consideration. • Members held that if any professional were found' to have taken part in any amateur event .he should bo severely dealt with. - ' Eventually, it was decided to leave the matter in tho hands ,of the Chairman (Mr. M'Villy) "and tho Secretary (Mr; Coffey), the medal to bo withheld in the meantime. FOSTERING, SPORT. Tho Secretary mentioned, that a statement was in circulation to the effect that tho Association had never lent any assistance to tho Wellington Physical Training School. As a matter of fact, no written application had, ho said, over been mado for. assistance. A couplo of months ago, Mr. Jones had asked him if tho Association would secure a permit to enable a competition to be held if application were mado. The Chairman said that the committee would bo only too. happy to give all the assistanco at its command, if it wore approached. He considered that the school was an excellent-recruiting ground.-- If the association did not oaro to do 1 so he would 'himself offer a medal, to be awarded to tho most scientific exponent- in the school; It would v be incumbent 'on', tho' committee to see that all competitions, were properly conducted.

Dr. Napier M'Lean thought that tho committee should' donate a medal as had .been suggested. would take the opportunity of strongly urging that the .floors on whicti all contests were to be held should be properly padded. _ In his opinion tho floor of the ring in which tho recent championships were decided was not sufficiently protected. He bad himself been present at a match at Home in which one of tho contestants met his death as a result of the floor of tho ring being insufficiently padded. It ■ was better to be on tho safe side.

Other members pointed out that the best cork linoleum was used as part' of the protective surface of tho ring used - by tho association. They agreed that every caution should bo taken, seeing that if any accident occurred at any competition under tho control of their association it would do irremediablo harm to tho sport. It was decided to award a medal as re-' .commended by the chairman.

OTHER BUSINESS. It was agrepd to prcsont a ; set of gloves to the proprietors of each of tho local schools of' instruction. The customary bonuses were granted to the scorotary and tho treasurer. It was reported that a substantial surplus had accrued in conncction with tho recent amateur, championship. Accounts amounting to £146. wcro passed for payment in con'nection therewith. It was decided that tho curtain-raisers in connection with the . Goslihg-Gnult professional match on July 13 should be aixrcinnd contests between Kerr and Selway and O'Donoghue and Parry. Tho valuo of tho trophies to bo presented to the .amateurs in question was fixed as follows:—Winner, Ogs.; loser, 2gs. ' ■ .
