CHARGE OF SHOOTING.
ACCUSED. REMANDED,
(bt !telegeaph—-press association.) InvercargUl, June 22. It is alleged, according to particulars regarding tho shotting at Edendale, that Stott had been drinking, and was a friend of Brown, the father of the girl.. On. Saturday night, at six o'clock, Stott returned to Edendale, and went to Brown's house. He said ho wanted to fight Brown.' Mary Brown induced him to go away, but lie returned botwecn nino and _ ten o'clock, and knoclted at : the door,- which Miss Brown' opened. Ho threatened to shoot the wholo family. Ho had a gun, and said to the young woman: "You arc the ono I want to shoot," and she ran into a bedroom; and when she was-closing the door Stott fired at close range, tho shot, going tlirough the door and taking effect in the girl's left shoulder. Miss Brown cricd out, "You bruto; you havo shot' roel" and Stott replied: "That is'what I wanted to do." Tho woman went to a neighbour's, and wlieri the doctor arrived she was weak from loss of blood:
Stott was arrested at two o'clock this morning.. He was- in bed. When told he hadrfhot Miss,. Brown he replied: "If I did,'l ,am very .sorry." Stott was brought before the court and remanded. . :
