The Kelburno Bowling Club is giving a ball in the Sydney Street schoolroom on Thursday, July 23. The Mayoress, Mrs. Hislop, has issued invitations for an "at homo" to bo givon for the Free Kindergarten TJnion in tho Mayor's Room at the Town Hall 011 Friday next. There is' a great work to bo dono by freo kindergartens in Wellington, and tho Union is anxious to extoiul its operations, but cannot do so unless it receives moro support from the Tho existence of the school to-day is duo to tho deoD interest in tho question that was aroused" among members of almost eveis- social sot in Wellington. It was said at the timo that ono could hardly find a woman who had not attonded at least ono of tho many drawing-room meetings in connection with the kindergartens that were hold all over tho City and suburbs, so well had the town been canvassed for sympathiser's. The TJnion is in urgont need of funds, and,hopes that all its old friends and many new ones will como to its help. Mr. and Mrs. Kane, who left by the Atiia on Thursday for, a trip to tho Pacific-Islands, expect, to be away for about two months. -Miss Myrtlo Dean, of Napier, is at present on a visit to Wellington, and is staying with MrsyPalmer, of Hobson Streot. ,
