Tho question as to whether a horse should bo prohibited from carrying more tliair a certain amount'of overweight ■is exercising' the niiud3 of some Dominion sportsmen. It is not often that horses carry mora than' 31b. or 41b. overweight in New Zealand, but cases do occasionally crop'up. At Hastings on Thursday throo of tho candidates in tho Hack Hurdles carried overweight, and ono of them, Oasis,'carried-71b.-over,'and finished sccond. ' W. Hutchinson, who rode the Jet d'Ean gelding,' handled his mount in a capablo manner, and it is not likoly that tho horso would have done' any better had he had another rider and-71b. less' to carry. Another caso that occurred 'this season was when G. Price rodo Tail Ban-to victory in tho Grcatrord Stakes at Bulls. 'On."that occasion tho chestnut -"horse carried '141b. over. Many owiiers treat tha matter'of overweight very lightly.-: > That is to'say, they would prefer the - sen-ices, of Jenkins or Howitt, when ■ availible,' and' declare'a few pounds over rather than • employ -an inexperienced lad that could rido- the 'correct weight. For tho ■. information of the public, however, the overweights should always bo indicated on thq .notico board. For tho .Kidnappers Hack Hurdles at Hastings it was notified that Oasis-would carry 71b. over, but there was no notice of tho' overweight carried by Nogi'. and- Waihekau.

Hastings, Juno 20. In tho case of the bookmakers convicted of trespassing on the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's racecourso, Mr. S. E. M'Carthy laid it down plainly that the Hawka's Day Jockey Club's racecourse, being their freehold property, their agents could order any member of tne public (oxcepting such bookmakers as were licensed by them) off their grounds during the progress of a race meeting without giving any reason for such actionj notwithstanding the fact that such person had paid for admission.
