The Minister had nothing to say regarding Rua, tho Maori prophet. So . far, 'said Mr.- Carroll, in reply, to a question, only one candidate, in addition to himself, had announced himself, for-tho Gisborne. scat. Tho other candidate is Mr. G. Darton, who was on tho labour and prohibition ticket. Mr. W. Lissant Clayton, who stood in tho Opposition.interest at last election, has not yet announced whether he .will stand or not. Without doubt, tho contest will bo vory interesting, for the campaign is being vigorously prosecuted. As to tho Bay of Plenty seat, there was quito a plethora- of aspirants in the field, but as far as the Gisborno end of the electorate was concerned, tho contest was between Mr. W. I). S. Mac Donald,. a well-known Rakauroa settler, and tho Mayor of Gisborno, Mr. Vf. D. Lysnar. Gisborno is greatly interested in tlw Bay of Plenty electorate,, as its southern boundary is within nine miles of Gisborn9.
