Mrs. Fulton received in a handsomo frock of black net over whito . silk, with hem of black chiffon velvet. A delightful "violet tea" was given yesterday afternoon by Mrs. Rankine-Brown at her home in Aurora Terrace, when violets /were introduced in- every way that an ingenious and artistic- fancy could devise Tho tea- table, which was lighted by a lamp, .oveiv which hung a pale violet shade, was decorated with wide -bowls filled with viofestoons of violets hung from the shade . , # the cakes were ornamented with violet, icing} crystallised violets were placed about "the. table in little dishes, and dainty violet sandwiches ■ were served. The throe singers, of the afternoon—Misses Ward, M Tavish} and Beauchamp— sang songs about' violets) and there were two violot competitions. Acided to this,, each of the - guests wore a bunch of violets, audi on thelappv suggestion of ono of them, these were all afterwards givon to the hostess to be sent by„her to. the where the patients will assurodly believe that spring has come. The competitions were rather novel. Mrs. RankineBrown received in a white lace blouse with touches of violet, and white-silk skirt. She wore a'violot chono sash, and pearl- and amethyst ■ necklace and pendant. Anion those present' wore: Mesdamcs . Algar Williams, Knight,. H. .-Johnston, Rolleston, Fis.her, W.- Hislop, H. Crawford, C. Pearco, A. Crawford, Boyd, Joseph, Elliott, A. loung/Biss, D. Nathan, and lan Duncan, and the Misses M'Tavish, Watson, Simpson, Reid, Harding, O'Connor, Rose, Pitt, Tolhurst, Butts, Richmond, Duncan, Russell, Fell, E. Fell, Coopor, Baird, L. Brandon, and Beauchamp (2). Mesdamcs H. Gore, Izard, and S. Harcourt, with Miss .Tewsley, took charge of the tea-^able.

A dance given by the Wednesday Hockey Association, in which the employees of Mr. C. Smith are very largely represented, was hold on Wednesday ovoning in the Masonic Hall, Bouleott Street. A number of people wero present, and the dance was most snccessful. : '
