Prince Darenbctg, president of the Suez Canal, speaking at a banquet in -London, stated that it was proposed to increase the depth of the Canal from 26ft. to 30ft. The Suez Caunl has not kept pace with modern requiromonts. It could not give sufficient depth of water for a Lusitania or a Man retains, to say . nothing of their successors. The Canal pays big dividends, and Sir Joseph Ward has advocated that thp profits he utilised to reduce the canal charges. The directors have replied that any surplus profits should bo utilised in improving the canal.
