IMPORTANT APPOINTMENT.
NEW FIRE BRIGADE SUPERIN- .. TENDENT.
The City Council last evening appointed Mr. William S. O'Brien superintendent of
the Wellington City Firo Brigado, in succession to Superintendent Hugo, who recently was selected by tho Government as Inspector of Firo Brigades throughout the Dominion. -\ *' Tho new ■ Superintendent has been in chargo of tho Wellington Firo Brigade sinco Superintendent Hugo's resignation, and priot to that was Deputy-superintendent. Ho was born in London in 1876. and sought his first experience of firo brigado work in 1890, when ho ioinod tho Melbourne Firo Insurance Societies' Brigado That brigade camo under tho control of a firo brigade board in 1891, and Inspector O'Brien remained in the sen-ice, filling various offices, and being in chargo ■ of threo different suburban stations. Ho' had rison to this responsibility from the ranks, and after ten. years' service at the Central station. On October., 26, 1906, ho was appointed Demity-Svu>oriii-tendent to tho Wellington City Brigade, and held that position until tho middle of last month, when, on Superintendent Hugo's promotion, ho becamo Acting-Supcrinton-dent.
