The fire took place in .tlio shelving in tlid balcony portion-of tho department, • and befora it was got under four volumos' of the .'.'Minutes of the Council oii -Education/ 1 and :a; volume entitled ''New Methods in Educa-, lion"' by J. Liberty Todd, bad. been damaged. Two of the. volumes of the "Minutes'* are badly damaged, and all th« volumes will liavo to be replaced. Indications wore discovered that apparently point to the outbreak being the work of an incendiary, or of incendiaries. Tho polico |i-e making inquiries into the affair. Tho insurances are divided between the local companies, and the tbt&l on tho buildings is £7250, and on the books, fittings, etc., £10,700. .
