FARMERS ALARMED. (BY TELEGKAPH—FEIiSS association.) . Inveroargill, June 17..^. A deputation from the Farmers' Union Wyndham to-night asked-the Hon. R. M'Nab",' whether legislation could be introduced to take agricultural labourers out of the scope, of the Arbitration Act. The Union, it was said, was becoming much alarmed at the demands the men were making, and compliance with them would make farming impossible. The Minister said the • Government had no intention of doing what the deputation asked, and lie thought tho. farmers were bo- 1 coming needlessly alarmed, because perhaps the demands of the men were unreasonable. They must not judge the award by the magnitude of the claim. The Court would certainly not make an award that would put farming out of existence. Tho deputation admitted that perhaps they were anticipating an evil tliat might not arise.
